You must confess your guilt and pay the victim in full for whatever damage has been done, plus a fine of 20 percent.


And thieves who get caught must pay back seven times what was stolen and lose everything.


Sell what you have and give the money to the poor. Make yourselves moneybags that never wear out. Make sure your treasure is safe in heaven, where thieves cannot steal it and moths cannot destroy it.


My disciples, I tell you to use wicked wealth to make friends for yourselves. Then when it is gone, you will be welcomed into an eternal home.


Let me ask this. Have I ever taken anyone's ox or donkey or forced you to give me anything? Have I ever hurt anyone or taken a bribe to give an unfair decision? Answer me so the Lord and his chosen king can hear you. And if I have done any of these things, I will give it all back.


If you would only give what you have to the poor, everything you do would please God.


When the Lord saw the woman, he felt sorry for her and said, “Don't cry!”


You, Lord God, bless everyone who cares for the poor, and you rescue those people in times of trouble.


For example, they need to return anything they have taken as security for a loan and anything they have stolen. Then if they stop doing evil and start obeying my Law, they will live.


Everyone who saw this started grumbling, “This man Zacchaeus is a sinner! And Jesus is going home to eat with him.”
