Then Jesus said, “When the two men went home, it was the tax collector and not the Pharisee who was pleasing to God. If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.”


If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored.


Too much pride brings disgrace; humility leads to honor.


In fact, God treats us with even greater kindness, just as the Scriptures say, “God opposes everyone who is proud, but he blesses all who are humble with undeserved grace.”


All of you young people should obey your elders. In fact, everyone should be humble toward everyone else. The Scriptures say, “God opposes proud people, but he helps everyone who is humble.”


Pride leads to destruction; humility leads to honor.


Be humble in the Lord's presence, and he will honor you.


Though you are above us all, you care for humble people, and you keep a close watch on everyone who is proud.


When that day comes, everyone who is proud will be put down. Only the Lord will be honored.


You rescue the humble, but you put down all who are proud.


When the Lord comes, everyone who is proud will be made humble, and the Lord alone will be honored.


Showing respect to the Lord will make you wise, and being humble will bring honor to you.


When others are disgraced, God will clear their names in answer to your prayers.


Samuel continued, “You may not think you're very important, but the Lord chose you to be king, and you are in charge of the tribes of Israel.


The Lord has used his powerful arm to scatter those who are proud.


Our holy God lives forever in the highest heavens, and this is what he says: Though I live high above in the holy place, I am here to help those who are humble and depend only on me.


You rescue the humble, but you look for ways to put down the proud.


Don't eat too much honey or always want praise.


God drags strong rulers from their thrones and puts humble people in places of power.


Then Jesus said to the man who had invited him: When you give a dinner or a banquet, don't invite your friends and family and relatives and rich neighbors. If you do, they will invite you in return, and you will be paid back.


Any of God's people who are poor should be glad he thinks so highly of them.


Be humble in the presence of God's mighty power, and he will honor you when the time comes.


The king replied, “Hurry and do just what you have said! Don't forget a thing. Get the robe and the horse for Mordecai the Jew, who serves as one of the king's officials!”
