13 Mourn, you priests who serve at the altar of my God. Spend your days and nights wearing sackcloth. Offerings of grain and wine are no longer brought to the Lord's temple.

Then I told the people of Israel, “Put on sackcloth! Mourn and cry out, ‘The Lord is still angry with us.’ ”


Tell my servants, the priests, to cry inside the temple and to offer this prayer near the altar: “Save your people, Lord God! Don't let foreign nations make jokes about us. Don't let them laugh and ask, ‘Where is your God?’ ”


You will put on sackcloth to show your sorrow, but terror will overpower you. Shame will be written all over your faces, and you will shave your heads in despair.


I weep for the pastureland in the hill country. It's so barren and scorched that no one travels there. No cattle can be found there, and birds and wild animals have all disappeared.


Are they servants of Christ? I am a fool to talk this way, but I serve him better than they do. I have worked harder and have been put in jail more times. I have been beaten with whips more and have been in danger of death more often.


But in everything and in every way we show we truly are God's servants. We have always been patient, though we have had a lot of trouble, suffering, and hard times.


He makes us worthy to be the servants of his new agreement that comes from the Holy Spirit and not from a written Law. After all, the Law brings death, but the Spirit brings life.


Don't you know that people who work in the temple make their living from what is brought to the temple? Don't you know that a person who serves at the altar is given part of what is offered?


Think of us as servants of Christ who have been given the work of explaining God's mysterious ways.


But they themselves will be priests and servants of the Lord our God. The treasures of the nations will belong to them, and they will be famous.


So David went without eating to show his sorrow, and he begged God to make the boy well. David would not sleep on his bed, but spent each night lying on the floor.


These sacrifices will be made in addition to the regular daily sacrifices and the sacrifices for the first day of the month. The smoke from these sacrifices will please me.


My two witnesses will wear sackcloth, while I let them preach for 1,260 days.


When all of this happened, the Lord All-Powerful told you to weep and mourn, to shave your heads, and wear sackcloth.


Groan in sorrow, Ezekiel; the sword is drawn against my people and their leaders. They will die! So give up all hope.


You will no longer be able to celebrate the festival of the Lord.


I am the Lord your God. Perhaps I will change my mind and treat you with mercy. Then you will be blessed with enough grain and wine for offering sacrifices to me.

Finally, along with each of these two sacrifices, a liter of wine must be poured on the altar as a drink offering.


Offer two liters of wine as a drink offering with each bull, one and a half liters with the ram, and one liter with each of the young rams. Finally, you must offer a goat as a sacrifice for sin. These sacrifices are to be offered on the first day of each month, in addition to the regular daily sacrifices.

The Lord said: It isn't too late. You can still return to me with all your heart. Start crying and mourning! Go without eating.
