But you are stubborn and refuse to turn to God. So you are making things even worse for yourselves on that day when he will show how angry he is and will judge the world with fairness.


I am your true pastureland, the one who gave hope to your ancestors. But you abandoned me, so when your enemies found you, they felt no guilt as they gobbled you up.


We know that everything in the Law was written for those who are under its power. The Law says these things to stop anyone from making excuses and to let God show that the whole world is guilty.


You have always been fair when you punished us for our sins.


But when they were at peace, they would turn against you, and you would hand them over to their enemies. Then they would beg for help, and because you are merciful, you rescued them over and over again.


And they will be given this answer: Our ancestors worshiped the Lord, but after he brought them out of Egypt and made an agreement with them, they rejected the agreement


This disaster happened because you worshiped other gods and rebelled against the Lord by refusing to obey him or follow his laws and teachings.


I am the Lord All-Powerful. You people of Judah were like a tree that I had planted, but you have made me angry by offering sacrifices to Baal, just as the northern kingdom did. And now I'm going to pull you up by the roots. *


People from different nations will pass by and ask, “Why did the Lord do this to such a great city as Jerusalem?”


to Ebedmelech from Ethiopia: I am the Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel. I warned everyone that I would bring disaster, not prosperity, to this city. Now very soon I will do what I said, and you will see it happen.


The Lord has done everything that he had planned and threatened long ago. He destroyed you without mercy and let your enemies boast about their powerful forces.
