The Lord is furious, and if the people hear how he is going to punish them, maybe they will ask to be forgiven.

Starting with my own city of Jerusalem, everyone on earth will suffer from war. So there is no way I will let you escape unharmed.”

But just look how Sennacherib has insulted you, the living God.

People of Israel, I'm not doing these things for your sake. You sinned against me, and you must suffer shame and disgrace for what you have done. I, the Lord God, have spoken.

When you spoke to me, I was glad to obey, because I belong to you, the Lord All-Powerful.

We rejected you and did evil, so we deserve to be punished. But if you rescue us, Lord, everyone will see how great you are.

To God's church in Corinth. Christ Jesus chose you to be his very own people, and you worship in his name, as we and all others do who call him Lord.

Please, don't send me back to that prison at Jonathan's house. If you do, I will die there.”

Did this disaster take you by surprise? Are you a warrior with your hands tied? You have chosen us, and your temple is here. Don't abandon us!

We are unfit to worship you; each of our good deeds is merely a filthy rag. We dry up like leaves; our sins are storm winds sweeping us away.

This is the temple where you have chosen to be worshiped. Please watch over it day and night and listen when I turn toward it and pray.

The Lord said: I have seen how my people are suffering as slaves in Egypt, and I have heard them beg for my help because of the way they are being mistreated. I feel sorry for them,

When you see these things, how can you just sit there and make us suffer more?

Everything you do is right, our Lord. But still we suffer public disgrace because we have been unfaithful and have sinned against you. This includes all of us, both far and near—the people of Judah, Jerusalem, and Israel, as well as those you dragged away to foreign lands,

Then the Lord said, “If Aaron and his sons ask me to bless the Israelites, I will give them my blessing.”

Please, Lord, remember, you have always been patient and kind.

They are my people— I created each of them to bring honor to me.”

so tell the Israelites that I am saying: You have disgraced my holy name among the nations where you now live. So you don't deserve what I'm going to do for you. I will lead you home to bring honor to my name
