4 The other men tried to find something wrong with the way Daniel did his work for the king. But they could not accuse him of anything wrong, because he was honest and faithful and did everything he was supposed to do.

4 As a result, the other officers and the chief administrators tried to find some problem with Daniel’s work for the kingdom. But they couldn’t find any problem or corruption at all because Daniel was trustworthy. He wasn’t guilty of any negligence or corruption.

Give a kind and respectful answer and keep your conscience clear. This way you will make people ashamed for saying bad things about your good conduct as a follower of Christ.


Then you will be the pure and innocent children of God. You live among people who are crooked and evil, but you must not do anything they can say is wrong. Try to shine as lights among the people of this world,


Always let others see you behaving properly, even though they may still accuse you of doing wrong. Then on the day of judgment, they will honor God by telling the good things they saw you do.


Jesus' enemies kept watching him closely, because they wanted to hand him over to the Roman governor. So they sent some men who pretended to be good. But they were really spies trying to catch Jesus saying something wrong.


Use clean language that no one can criticize. Do this, and your enemies will be too ashamed to say anything against you.


Pilate knew the leaders had brought Jesus to him because they were jealous.


I heard the crowds whisper, “Everyone is afraid. Now's our chance to accuse Jeremiah!” All of my so-called friends are just waiting for me to make a mistake. They say, “Maybe Jeremiah can be tricked. Then we can overpower him and get even at last.”


I would prefer that young widows get married, have children, and look after their families. Then the enemy won't have any reason to say insulting things about us.


Then I realized that we work and do wonderful things just because we are jealous of others. This makes no more sense than chasing the wind.


Good people and criminals can't stand each other.


At that time, the Philistines were in control of Israel, and the Lord wanted to stir up trouble for them. That's why he made Samson desire that woman.


But on the way they got worried and started thinking, “We are being taken there because of the money that was put back in our sacks last time. He will arrest us, make us his slaves, and take our donkeys.”


I plan to go on doing just what I have always done. Then those people won't be able to brag about doing the same things we are doing.


Once again Pilate went out. This time he said, “I will have Jesus brought out to you again. Then you can see for yourselves that I have not found him guilty.”


The chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses were looking for a way to get rid of Jesus, because they were afraid of what the people might do.


They planned how they could sneak around and have Jesus arrested and put to death.


Some Babylonians used this as a chance to accuse the Jews to King Nebuchadnezzar.


You know they plan to kill me. So get angry and punish them! Don't ever forgive their terrible crimes.


Some of the people said, “Let's get rid of Jeremiah! We will always have priests to teach us God's laws, as well as wise people to give us advice, and prophets to speak the Lord's messages. So, instead of listening to Jeremiah any longer, let's accuse him of a crime.”


“Your Majesty, none of your officers is more loyal than David!” Ahimelech replied. “He's your son-in-law and the captain of your bodyguard. Everyone in your family respects him.


The Lord helped David, and he and his soldiers always won their battles.


Jesus' enemies could not catch him saying anything wrong there in front of the people. They were amazed at his answer and kept quiet.


Pray for peace in Babylonia and work hard to make it prosperous. The more successful that nation is, the better off you will be.


My God knew that I was innocent, and he sent an angel to keep the lions from eating me. Your Majesty, I have never done anything to hurt you.”


So the king said to them, “Who could possibly handle this better than Joseph? After all, the Spirit of God is with him.”


“No,” the Israelites answered. “You've never cheated us in any way!”


He also changed the man's name from Daniel to Belteshazzar. Not only is he wise and intelligent, but he can explain dreams and riddles and solve difficult problems. Send for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.
