2 In order to make sure that his government was run properly, Darius put three other officials in charge of the governors. One of these officials was Daniel.

Belshazzar gave a command for Daniel to be made the third most powerful man in his kingdom and to be given a purple robe and a gold chain.


But I have been told that you understand everything and that you can solve difficult problems. Now then, if you can read this writing and tell me what it means, you will become the third most powerful man in my kingdom. You will wear royal purple robes and have a gold chain around your neck.


because a reward has been promised to anyone who kills my people. Your Majesty, if we were merely going to be sold as slaves, I would not have bothered you.”


Do this at once, so that no harm will come to the kingdom.


And since our first duty is to be faithful to the one we work for,


So the rich man called him in and said, “What is this I hear about you? Tell me what you have done! You are no longer going to work for me.”


This story will show you what the kingdom of heaven is like: One day a king decided to call in his officials and ask them to give an account of what they owed him.

He told them, “The man who can read this writing and tell me what it means will become the third most powerful man in my kingdom. He will wear robes of royal purple and a gold chain around his neck.”


Darius divided his kingdom into 120 states and placed a governor in charge of each one.
