Daniel 1:8 - Contemporary English Version Interconfessional Edition

8 Daniel made up his mind to eat and drink only what God had approved for his people to eat. And he asked the king's chief official for permission not to eat the food and wine served in the royal palace.

Don't let me want to do evil or waste my time doing wrong with wicked people. Don't let me even taste the good things they offer.


But it is better to have self-control and to make up your mind not to marry.


All you worthless people, get away from me! I am determined to obey the commands of my God.


Your laws are fair, and I have given my word to respect them all.


and give them the same food and wine that I am served. Train them for three years, and then they can become court officials.”


When Barnabas got there and saw how God had blessed them with undeserved grace, he was very glad. So he begged them to remain faithful to the Lord with all their hearts.


Each of you must make up your own mind about how much to give. But don't feel sorry that you must give and don't feel you are forced to give. God loves people who love to give.


You offered them wine and your best sacrifices. Can't those gods help you now or give you protection?


Your people became followers of a god named Baal Peor, and they ate sacrifices offered to the dead.


The Lord God promised my father that when his son became king, he would build a temple for worshiping the Lord. So I've decided to do that.


We should simply write and tell them not to eat anything that has been offered to idols. They should be told not to eat the meat of any animal that has been strangled or that still has blood in it. They must also not commit any terrible sexual sins.


Don't be greedy for all of that fancy food! It may not be so tasty.
