Then the neighboring people began to do everything possible to frighten the Jews and to make them stop building.


All people will be terrified. Hands will grow limp; courage will melt away.


Then the people said, “Just hearing about them makes us tremble with fear, and we twist and turn in pain like a woman giving birth.”


Jerusalem, the time is coming, when it will be said to you: “Don't be discouraged or grow weak from fear!


Ever since your king heard about this army, he has been weak with fear; he twists and turns in pain like a woman giving birth.


Here is a message for all who are weak, trembling, and worried:


Our enemies were trying to frighten us and to keep us from our work. But I asked God to give me strength.


while he is tired and discouraged. He will panic, and everyone with him will run away. I won't kill anyone except David,


When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab pretended he wanted to talk privately with him. So he took Abner into one of the small rooms that were part of the town gate and stabbed him in the stomach. Joab killed him because Abner had killed Joab's brother Asahel.


Abner the son of Ner had been the general of Saul's army. He took Saul's son Ishbosheth across the Jordan River to Mahanaim
