Our human fathers correct us for a short time, and they do it as they think best. But God corrects us for our own good, because he wants us to be holy, as he is.


But the Lord your God loves you, so he refused to listen to Balaam and turned Balaam's curse into a blessing.


We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him. They are the ones God has chosen for his purpose,


See my troubles and misery and forgive my sins.


but he will give you relief from your troubles. God will do the same for us, when the Lord Jesus comes from heaven with his powerful angels


“Lord All-Powerful, I am your servant, but I am so miserable! Please let me have a son. I promise to give him to you for as long as he lives, and his hair will never be cut.”


These little troubles are getting us ready for an eternal glory that will make all our troubles seem like nothing.


I, the Lord, didn't punish and kill the people of Israel as fiercely as I punished and killed their enemies.

Don't even think of signing a peace treaty with Moab or Ammon.


But you see the trouble and the distress, and you will do something. The poor can count on you, and so can orphans.


I am the Lord your God. Perhaps I will change my mind and treat you with mercy. Then you will be blessed with enough grain and wine for offering sacrifices to me.
