You asked me to pray and find out what the Lord our God wants you to do, and you promised to obey him. But that was a terrible mistake,


Do you think you have an agreement with death and the world of the dead? Why do you trust in your lies to keep you safe from danger and the mighty flood?


God doesn't like fools. So don't be slow to keep your promises to God.


I will keep my promises to you, my God, and bring you gifts.


Absalom answered, “You didn't pay any attention when I sent for you. I want you to ask my father why he told me to come back from Geshur. I was better off there. I want to see my father now! If I'm guilty, let him kill me.”


Joab went to Geshur to get Absalom. But when they came back to Jerusalem,


Samuel answered, “If I do that, Saul will find out and have me killed.” “Take a calf with you,” the Lord replied. “Tell everyone that you've come to offer it as a sacrifice to me,


But if you don't want to worship the Lord, then choose here and now! Will you worship the same idols your ancestors did? Or since you're living on land that once belonged to the Amorites, maybe you'll worship their gods. I won't. My family and I are going to worship and obey the Lord!


David gave his permission, and Absalom went to Hebron.
