Why should the king of Israel be out chasing me, anyway? I'm as worthless as a dead dog or a flea.

Jesus said to the mob, “Why do you come with swords and clubs to arrest me like a criminal? Day after day I sat and taught in the temple, and you didn't arrest me.

Jesus was still speaking, when Judas the betrayer came up. He was one of the twelve disciples, and a large mob armed with swords and clubs was with him. They had been sent by the chief priests and the nation's leaders.

The Lord your God will keep you safe when your enemies try to kill you. But he will snatch away their lives quicker than you can throw a rock from a sling.

You protect your loyal people, but everyone who is evil will die in darkness. We cannot win a victory by our own strength.

Your Majesty, look at what I'm holding. You can see that it's a piece of your robe. If I could cut off a piece of your robe, I could have killed you. But I let you live, and that should prove I'm not trying to harm you or to rebel. I haven't done anything to you, and yet you keep trying to ambush and kill me.

But for now, I am sending enemies who will catch you like fish and hunt you down like wild animals in the hills and the caves.

No one had reason to hate me, but I was hunted down like a bird.

I pray that the Lord will help me escape and show that I am in the right.
