1 Samuel 24:11 - Contemporary English Version Interconfessional Edition

11 Your Majesty, look at what I'm holding. You can see that it's a piece of your robe. If I could cut off a piece of your robe, I could have killed you. But I let you live, and that should prove I'm not trying to harm you or to rebel. I haven't done anything to you, and yet you keep trying to ambush and kill me.

11 Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.

11 See, my father, see the skirt of your robe in my hand! Since I cut off the skirt of your robe and did not kill you, you know and see that there is no evil or treason in my hands. I have not sinned against you, yet you hunt my life to take it.

Common English Bible

11 Look here, my protector! See the corner of your robe in my hand? I cut off the corner of your robe but didn’t kill you. So know now that I am not guilty of wrongdoing or rebellion. I haven’t wronged you, but you are hunting me down, trying to kill me.

11 Behold, this day your eyes have seen that the Lord has delivered you into my hand, in the cave. And I thought that I might kill you. But my eye has spared you. For I said: I will not extend my hand against my lord, for he is the Christ of the Lord.

1 Samuel 24:11
22 পৰস্পৰ সংযোগসমূহ

Don't let me die in a land far away from the Lord. I'm no more important than a flea! Why should the king of Israel hunt me down as if I were a bird in the mountains?”

Find out where all his hiding places are and come back when you're sure. Then I'll go with you. If he is still in the area, or anywhere among the clans of Judah, I'll find him.

David stayed in hideouts in the hill country of Ziph Desert. Saul kept searching, but God never let Saul catch him.

This is why the Scriptures are true when they say, “People hated me for no reason.”

His servants went over to him and said, “Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something difficult, you would have done it. So why don't you do what he said? Go wash and be cured.”

Why are you hunting me down? Have I done something wrong, or have I committed a crime?

No one is loyal to God; no one does right. Everyone is brutal and eager to deceive everyone else.

Tell them they're doomed! They wear magic charms on their wrists and scarves on their heads, then trick others into believing they can predict the future. They won't get away with telling those lies.

Enemies hunted us down on every public street. Our time was up; our doom was near.

A kind answer soothes angry feelings, but harsh words stir them up.

Chase those cruel liars away! Let trouble hunt them down.

I did them no harm, but they hid a net to trap me, and they dug a deep pit to catch and kill me.

No matter how hard I try, you keep hunting me down like a powerful lion.

David and his men left and killed 200 Philistines. David brought back the proof that Saul had demanded and showed it to him, so he could marry Michal. Saul agreed to let David marry Michal.

Please forgive me if I say a little more. The Lord will always protect you and your family, because you fight for him. I pray that you won't ever do anything evil as long as you live.

Merciless enemies, Lord, are hiding and plotting, hoping to kill me. I have not hurt them in any way at all.

Rulers are cruel to me for no reason. But with all my heart I respect your words,

Let me ask this. Have I ever taken anyone's ox or donkey or forced you to give me anything? Have I ever hurt anyone or taken a bribe to give an unfair decision? Answer me so the Lord and his chosen king can hear you. And if I have done any of these things, I will give it all back.

The Lord put you in my power today, but you are his chosen king and I wouldn't harm you. The Lord rewards people who are faithful and live right.

David said to him, “Why weren't you afraid to kill the Lord's chosen king? And you even told what you did. It's your own fault that you're going to die!” Then David told one of his soldiers, “Come here and kill this man!”

If I have done any of this, then let my enemies chase and capture me. Let them trample me to death and leave me in the dirt.
