3 “Jonathan, I swear it's true! But your father knows how much you like me, and he didn't want to break your heart. That's why he didn't tell you. I swear by the living Lord and by your own life that I'm only one step ahead of death.”

Elijah then said to Elisha, “Now the Lord wants me to go to the Jordan River, but you must stay here.” Elisha replied, “I swear by the living Lord and by your own life that I will never leave you!” So the two of them walked on together.


but he thought to himself, “One of these days, Saul is going to kill me. The only way to escape from him is to go to Philistia. Then I'll be outside of Israel, and Saul will give up trying to catch me.”

“My father can't be trying to kill you! He never does anything without telling me about it. Why would he hide this from me? It can't be true!”


Then Jonathan said, “Tell me what to do, and I'll do it.”
