“Why are you telling me this?” Saul asked. “I'm from Benjamin, the smallest tribe in Israel, and my clan is the least important in the tribe.”


The people prayed, “Our Lord, is Saul here?” “Yes,” the Lord answered, “he is hiding behind the baggage.”


Samuel took a small jar of olive oil and poured it on Saul's head. Then he kissed Saul and told him: The Lord has chosen you to be the leader and ruler of his people.


But if you are as humble as this child, you are the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.


When your leaders spoke, everyone in Israel trembled and showed great respect. But you sinned by worshiping Baal, and you were destroyed.


Gideon replied, “But how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest one in Manasseh, and everyone else in my family is more important than I am.”


“Stop!” Samuel said. “Let me tell you what the Lord told me last night.” “All right,” Saul answered.
