and then they may recover from the snares of the devil, by whom they are held captive at his will.


Man does not know his own end. But, just as fish are caught with a hook, and birds are captured with a snare, so are men seized in the evil time, when it will suddenly overwhelm them.


Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and they said: "Let us sing to the Lord, for he has been gloriously magnified: the horse and the rider he has cast into the sea.


I will be trained in your commandments, and I will consider your ways.


Because of the misery of the destitute and the groaning of the poor, now I will arise, says the Lord. I will place him in safety. I will act faithfully toward him.


For though you have not seen him, you love him. In him also, though you do not see him, you now believe. And in believing, you shall exult with an inexpressible and glorious joy,


My brothers, when you have fallen into various trials, consider everything a joy,


For the sins of the lips draw ruin to the evil. But the just shall escape from distress.


His own iniquities take hold of the impious, and he is bound by the cords of his own sins.


And this we write to you, so that you may rejoice, and so that your joy may be full.


And those who before had pretended to flee, turning their faces, withstood them more strongly. And when the sons of Benjamin had seen this, they turned their backs in flight,


Weapons and swords are on the way of the perverse. But he who guards his own soul withdraws far from them.


The expectation of the just is rejoicing. But the hope of the impious will perish.
