Casting a lot suppresses contentions and passes judgment, even among the powerful.


And they cast lots concerning them, and the lot fell upon Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven Apostles.


And a man said to his shipmate, "Come, and let us cast lots, so that we may know why this disaster is upon us." And they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.


Many demand the face of the leader. But the judgment of each one proceeds from the Lord.

And casting lots over them both, one is to be offered to the Lord, and the other is to be the emissary goat.
