How long will you not spare me, nor release me to ingest my saliva?


HE. He has filled me with bitterness; he has inebriated me with wormwood.


Now every discipline, in the present time, does not seem a gladness, of course, but a grief. But afterwards, it will repay a most peaceful fruit of justice to those who become trained in it.


ALEPH. Against me only, he has turned and turned again his hand, all day long.


For who among the clouds is equal to the Lord? Who among the sons of God is like God?


For evils without number have surrounded me. My iniquities have taken hold of me, and I was not able to see. They have been multiplied beyond the hairs of my head. And my heart has forsaken me.

Why is light given to the miserable, and life to those who are in bitterness of soul,


Will not my few days be completed soon? Release me, therefore, so that I may lament my sorrows a little,


For you write bitter things against me, and you want to consume me for the sins of my youth.


But she said to them, "Do not call me Naomi (that is, beautiful), but call me Mara (that is, bitter). For the Almighty has greatly filled me with bitterness.


And they have gone after the depravity of their own heart, and after Baal, which they learned from their fathers."
