For this reason, the Lord, the God of hosts, says this: "My people, who inhabit Zion: do not be afraid of Assur. He will strike you with his rod, and he will lift up his staff over you, on the way of Egypt.


Therefore, on the same day, he instructed the overseers of the works, and the taskmasters of the people, saying:


Likewise, the overseers of the works pressured them, saying: "Complete your work each day, just as you were accustomed to do before, when straw was given to you."


And the first among the sons of Israel came, and they cried out to Pharaoh, saying: "Why do act against your servants in this way?


And they led their life directly into bitterness, with hard work in clay and brick, and with all kinds of servitude, so that they were being overwhelmed with the works of the land.
