Instead, having previously suffered and been treated shamefully, as you know, at Philippi, we had confidence in our God, so as to speak the Gospel of God to you with much solicitude.


despite wounds, imprisonment, and rebellion; with hard work, vigilance, and fasting;


Truly, others were tested by mocking and lashes, and moreover by chains and imprisonment.


He himself bore our sins in his body upon the tree, so that we, having died to sin, would live for justice. By his wounds, you have been healed.


But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews rose up with one accord against Paul. And they brought him to the tribunal,


But the Jews, being jealous, and joining with certain evildoers among the common men, caused a disturbance, and they stirred up the city. And taking up a position near the house of Jason, they sought to lead them out to the people.


But Paul said to them: "They have beaten us publicly, though we were not condemned. They have cast men who are Romans into prison. And now they would drive us away secretly? Not so. Instead, let them come forward,


And calling in the Apostles, having beaten them, they warned them not to speak at all in the name of Jesus. And they dismissed them.


Then he released Barabbas to them. But Jesus, having been scourged, he handed over to them, so that he would be crucified.


But beware of men. For they will hand you over to councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues.


And when they will lead you to the synagogues, and to magistrates and authorities, do not choose to be worried about how or what you will answer, or about what you might say.
