1 ABSALOM SON of David had a fair sister whose name was Tamar, and Amnon [her half brother] son of David loved her.

These were all the sons of David, besides the sons of the concubines. And Tamar was their sister.


Third, Absalom the son of Maacah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur; fourth, Adonijah, of Haggith;


There were born to Absalom three sons and one daughter whose name was Tamar; she was a beautiful woman.


Then Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that his hatred for her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, Get up and get out!


Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain [because it is not lasting], but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised!


Lust not after her beauty in your heart, neither let her capture you with her eyelids.


BUT KING Solomon [defiantly] loved many foreign women–the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites.


One evening David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king's house, when from there he saw a woman bathing; and she was very lovely to behold.


But his soul longed for and clung to Dinah daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl and spoke comfortingly to her young heart's wishes.


And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her.


And Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, I will work for you for seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.


The sons of God saw that the daughters of men were fair, and they took wives of all they desired and chose.


And Amnon was so troubled that he fell sick for his [half] sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and Amnon thought it impossible for him to do anything to her.
