Answer
The Bible mentions that certain end-time events will take place in a temple in Jerusalem (Daniel 9:27; Matthew 24:15). Second Thessalonians 2:4, referring to the Antichrist, informs us, “He will oppose and exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.” Before the end times can unfold, a temple must be in place for these events to transpire.
There remains the “small” issue of the Islamic Dome of the Rock occupying the location where the Jewish temple is expected to stand. Muslims consider this spot as where Mohammed ascended into heaven, making it the third most sacred of Muslim shrines. It would be inconceivable in today’s political climate for Jews to reclaim this site and erect a temple on it. However, during the tribulation, the construction of the Temple will occur, safeguarded by the Antichrist (Daniel 9:24-27).
Upon witnessing the Temple being built, we can be certain that the end times are truly upon us. The Antichrist will be in power, the Church will have already been raptured, and the first half of the tribulation will have transpired. Yet, there will still be an opportunity for individuals to turn to Christ for salvation.
