Who is S. Michael Houdmann?

Answer

S. Michael Houdmann is the Founder, President, and CEO of Got Questions Ministries, the parent ministry for GotQuestions.org. Questions about S. Michael Houdmann are rare, which is positive. He prefers GotQuestions.org not to revolve around him. Recognition of his name should not influence people’s acceptance or rejection of the answers provided on GotQuestions.org. Instead, he hopes individuals will base their judgment on reading, comparing the answers with the Word of God, and praying about them to determine their truth and biblical accuracy.

The following are the questions S. Michael Houdmann is most frequently asked:

What inspired the creation of GotQuestions.org?

Ultimately, it was God’s inspiration. After graduating from Calvary University and Calvary Theological Seminary (Kansas City, MO) without a clear calling to traditional ministry, my wife and I prayed for a unique ministry opportunity. We cannot recall if the idea came to me or my wife first, but we sensed God guiding us to establish a Christian website where individuals could inquire about any Bible-related question. This marked the inception of GotQuestions.org.

When was GotQuestions.org launched?

The concept was initially received in December of 2001. After exploring a few alternatives, we eventually secured the GotQuestions.org domain name in February of 2002.

How was the initial phase?

The outset can be described as being “in over our heads.” Initially, I never envisioned GotQuestions.org evolving beyond a pastime. I viewed it as a supplementary endeavor alongside any full-time ministry I might pursue. Clearly, God had grander plans for GotQuestions.org than I had anticipated.

What aspect of being the CEO of GotQuestions.org do you appreciate the most?

Questions.org?

I am grateful to God every day for the opportunity to serve Him by doing something I truly love and enjoy. If I were to outline the ideal responsibilities for my dream ministry, it would closely mirror what I am currently engaged in, with the exception of potentially reducing administrative tasks. Technology has always been a passion of mine, and I have consistently found that I can articulate my thoughts more effectively through writing than speaking. Therefore, a ministry that enables me to write, edit, develop, research, and publish content aligns perfectly with my strengths.

What aspect of being the CEO of GotQuestions.org do you find least appealing?

The most challenging aspect is dealing with detractors. Unfortunately, there are individuals who exhibit extreme rudeness and hostility towards us, making hurtful and derogatory remarks. While I understand that encountering such negativity is inevitable (Matthew 10:22; John 15:18), it can still be emotionally taxing at times. During particularly difficult days, browsing through our testimonials page never fails to uplift my spirits.

How did you come to embrace faith in Christ?

My journey to faith in Christ began during my late teenage years. A visiting uncle, who happened to be a pastor, spent a week with our family. During his stay, he shared the Gospel with me and patiently addressed all my inquiries. While I cannot definitively pinpoint the exact moment of my conversion, he certainly sowed seeds of faith in my life. Several months later, after I started attending the youth group at a nearby church, the youth pastor lucidly presented the Gospel message. That evening, I knelt down and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior, solely by grace, through faith alone. It was at that instant that I knew I had genuinely received Jesus Christ as my Savior.

What is your educational background?

Before establishing GotQuestions.org, I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Calvary University and a Master of Arts in Christian Theology from Calvary Theological Seminary. Subsequently, I pursued a Master of Theology with a focus on Christian Apologetics from Dallas Theological Seminary. Currently, I am pursuing a…Pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. During my initial journey through college and seminary, I did not feel a clear calling from God into any of the traditional forms of ministry. So, the degree programs I chose were somewhat general. Looking back, they were the perfect programs to prepare me for answering questions at GotQuestions.org. They provided me with a strong foundation in understanding the Bible and Christian theology, and in knowing how to teach it to others.

How can we pray for you?

What a great question! Thank you! Please pray that I would always be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading. Pray that God would always give me the wisdom and discernment I need. Pray that I would be a good steward of the ministry He has entrusted to me. Pray that I would remain humble and would always give God the glory for what He accomplishes through GotQuestions.org.
