Temptation is a struggle for every Christian, and the Bible provides much insight on this matter. One notable passage is 1 Corinthians 10:13, which declares, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

The New Living Translation phrases it as follows: “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”

This verse is part of a discussion on food offered to idols, which commenced in chapter 8. Subsequently, Paul offers words of caution to his audience concerning sin and temptation. He references the Israelites’ shortcomings in the Old Testament as a caution against engaging in wickedness. Idolatry, sexual immorality, and even grumbling against God are behaviors that a Christian should steer clear of. This applies to both the strong and the weak. The former should be cautious not to stumble «Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. », (1 Corinthians 10:12), and the latter should not be led astray by the liberty of the strong.
