They Were Rich, Famous, and “Successful”; Why Did They Take Their Own Lives?

Many people were their fans and wanted to be like them for the “successful” lives they had. Celebrities, rich, and famous, but something was missing. The happy faces and their livestyles hide the reality they were living.

Kurt Cobain, Marilyn Monroe, Robin Williams

Kurt Donald Cobain (Kurt Cobain)

He was an American singer-songwriter and musician. He was the frontman and guitarist of one of the most famous rock bands, Nirvana. He decided to take his own life by putting a gun to his head. Although people saw his “succesful” outward, he was struggling with some issues in the inside, depression and drug addiction for a long period of time.

“I was tired of pretending that I was someone else just to get along with people, just for the sake of having friendships.” ― Kurt Cobain

“I’m so happy. Cause today I found my friends. They’re in my head.” ― Kurt Cobain, Artwork.

“If my eyes could show my soul, everyone would cry when they saw me smile.” ― kurt cobain

Robin McLaurin Williams (Robin Williams)

He was an American actor, voice actor, comedian and singer. He won many awards for the roles he played. He made people around the world laugh, but couldn’t do the same .Despite the fame, money and his “successful”, Williams decided to put an end to his life by by hanging at his home in Paradise Cay, California (aged 63). The report after his death noted that he had been suffering from depression and anxiety.

“I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel all alone.” ― Robin Williams

“I think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy. Because they know what it’s like to feel absolutely worthless and they don’t want anybody else to feel like that.” ― Robin Williams

Norma Jeane Baker (Marilyn Monroe)

She was called one of the biggest icon the world. She was at the top of the fame: magazine covers, campaigns, the movies, money, relationships, beauty etc. However, it seems that the “successful” lifestyle she had was not enough to give her what she was looking for. She decided to  take her life by taking a lethal dose of barbiturates (aged 36).

“It’s far better to be unhappy alone than unhappy with someone — so far.”
― Marilyn Monroe

“I’ve never fooled anyone. I’ve let people fool themselves. They didn’t bother to find out who and what I was. Instead they would invent a character for me. I wouldn’t argue with them. They were obviously loving somebody I wasn’t.”
― Marilyn Monroe

These are just some of the celebrities that enter the list of those who despite having “the necessary to be happy”, they were too far to reach true happiness and a peace. As you can see,  there is a relation of the words they said “they were pretending to be” someone they were not. Behind a beautiful or smiling face, a fight was taking place in their minds. They felt empty.

The Bible says that the words expresses what a person has in his heart (Luke 6:45). These celebrities’ words expressed the way they felt; they were shouting they needed help. Sadly, they thought that ending with their life would end with the pain of their hearts.

There is only one person that can fill the emptiness of a heart, Jesus Christ. He is the only one that can give true meaning to a life. His unconditional love, His mercy and forgiveness can heal the wounds left by the fallen world.

None of the thing this world offers can give you real happiness. Jesus is the answer and hope of the world (John 3:16). When a life understand His love and seek Him, it will experience the beauty of His presence.

Jesus came to the world to give humanity the salvation of their souls. He came to give life, life in abundance! (John 10:10)

What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? (Matthew 16:26)
