A few years ago, during my first steps in the Christian faith, I was assailed by a question: Have I sinned against the Holy Spirit?. This frightening question was consuming my inner joy, to serve God, to imagine me in heaven with Christ’s church. I even thought that I could never be saved and live with God forever. (Revelation 12:10)
I have no doubt that the devil is behind this feeling of oppression. However, besides all the attacks of the enemy, I can’t forget that there are many Christians don’t even seek to understand the Scriptures.
Then, What is the unforgivable sin? in the book of Mark 3:29, Jesus says: “whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin“. The word “Blasphemy” is defined as the act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God and everything He does.
The Holy Spirit convinces us of our sin nature, and lead us to convert to Christ. However, if we turn our backs on Him, it’s impossible to be brought back to repentance. (Hebrews 6:4-8)
So, if you think and is concern about the sin against the Holy Spirit, just the fact that you are worry is a consistent evidence that you have not committed the unforgivable sin.
“This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God” 1 John 3:19-21
