Like the HARE or like the TORTOISE?

Once upon a time a tortoise and a hare had an argument about who was faster. So, they decided to settle the argument with a race. They both agreed on a route and started off the race.

The hare shot ahead and ran briskly for some time. Then, seeing he was far ahead of the tortoise, he thought he’d sit down and rest for a while before continuing the race. He sat down under a tree and soon fell fast asleep.

The tortoise, plodding along, soon overtook him, passed him, crossed the finish line, and won the race.

The hare woke up and realized he’d lost.

There are many aspects we can learn from this story. On one hand, it shows us the great ability the hare had, however, it relied too much on its abilities that decided to focus on another issue that made him lose what was supposed to win, the race.

The Bible teaches us about having this kind of attitude. In the book of Proverbs 16:18 says “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” Besides this, the Lord advises us to be prudent in all we do and not being wise in our own opinion, instead He wants us to shun evil (Proverbs 3:7).

The hare made a huge mistake, believing in its ability and forgot the main goal. According to its own opinion, it was good to leave the priority to do something else; this action left him sad consequences.

If you want to conquer the prize, it is necessary to be focused on the target as the Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9:25-28.

On the other hand, this story shows us what is the result of not giving up. Things can change in your favor if you decide not to be overwhelmed by circumstances. Although the tortoise wasn’t good at running, it decided to give it a try and be perseverant and its great attitude made it win the race.

It is not about the abilities, it is about the attitude!
