Is there any truth to Dan Brown’s bestseller The Da Vinci Code? It is important to remember that The Da Vinci Code is entirely fictional. Despite author Dan Brown’s intentions, The Da Vinci Code lacks historical, biblical, or theological foundation. Essentially, The Da Vinci Code seeks to humanize Jesus Christ by creating a narrative where His true identity was distorted and concealed for almost two millennia. According to the book, Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and had offspring. Mary Magdalene and the descendants of Jesus were considered the “holy grail” carrying the bloodline of Christ. The Da Vinci Code alleges that the early church suppressed these details about Jesus to safeguard the concept of His divinity. Any Christian texts mentioning Jesus’ relationship with Mary Magdalene were purportedly eradicated, and any proof of such a connection was hidden.
Once more, The Da Vinci Code is a work of fiction with no grounding in reality. While it is a well-crafted and engaging novel, it remains purely fictional. Dan Brown may believe in the validity of these ideas about Jesus, but without historical, biblical, or theological support, he chose to present them within a fictional framework. The reality, however, is that Jesus was not married to Mary Magdalene or anyone else, and He did not father any children. While the early church did seek to eliminate many “gospels” concerning Jesus, it was primarily due to their widespread recognition as heretical, not to conceal any truths. Even these “gospels” only vaguely hint at a relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. The church did not suppress the fact of Jesus being married to Mary Magdalene; rather, it safeguarded the truth of Jesus being God incarnate «In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. », (John 1:1,14).
(John 1:1,14) “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”, (John 1:1,14).
The Da Vinci Code is, in reality, an attack on the Person of Jesus Christ. People do not want to believe that Jesus is God or that He is the Savior, so they fabricate falsehoods about Him to create a distorted Jesus in whom they can believe. That is the essence of The Da Vinci Code—presenting a distorted view of who Jesus Christ truly was and then rationalizing why this “truth” has been “concealed” for nearly 2000 years.
