Is it possible that more books could be added to the Bible?

Answer

There is no reason to believe that God would provide additional revelation to supplement His Word. The Bible commences with the inception of humanity—Genesis—and concludes with the culmination of humanity as we comprehend it—Revelation. Everything in between serves as a benefit for us as believers, enabling us to be enriched with God’s truth in our daily lives. We understand this from 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is beneficial for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

If more books were appended to the Bible, it would imply that the Bible we possess today is deficient—that it fails to provide us with all the information we require. While this specifically pertains to the book of Revelation, Revelation 22:18-20 imparts a crucial lesson about adding to God’s Word: “I caution everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city…”

We have all that we require in the existing 66 books of the Bible. There is not a single circumstance in life that cannot be addressed by Scripture. What commenced in Genesis reaches its conclusion in Revelation. The Bible is entirely comprehensive and adequate. Could God supplement the Bible? Undoubtedly, He could. Nevertheless, there is no biblical or theological rationale to believe that He will do so, or that there is any necessity for Him to do so.
