Prayer is an integral part of every Christian’s life; essential in our spiritual growth, and our main way of communication with God. If you’ve ever found your prayer life lacking, here are 7 steps to help you improve it.
1. Always be praying
Don’t only pray before you eat and before you sleep. Talk to God through out your day: tell him about your issues, your worries and about your victories (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
2. Pray for others
Prayer time isn’t only about you. Lift the people in your life up in prayer. Whether it’s your spouse, your friends, or that annoying guy at work.
3. Pray for an open heart
Ask God to move in you and guide your life. As God guides you, He’ll show you what area needs prayer.
4. Don’t do all the talking
Prayer isn’t a one-way street. It’s a conversation! Let God move in you. There are many ways in which God can talk to you, through his actual voice, his word, a person, He can also plant some ideas in your spirit. Concentrate, and let the words of the Holy Spirit speak to your life.
5. Don’t give God your grocery list
Don’t spend all your time asking God for stuff. Again, prayer is a conversation. How would you feel if someone only talked to you when they needed stuff and then left?
6. Praise God
Take time to thank God for all that He’s done in your life. Give Him the glory He deserves. He is the Almighty, and nothing ever happens if God doesn’t first allow it, so when you notice a blessing in your life, be sure to say thank you.
7. Look at how God taught us to pray
In Luke 11, Jesus gave us the outline of how we have to pray. Take time to look at the passage and study carefully what Jesus is saying in each part.
Remember, the only way to be good at something is to practice. So do not be discouraged and keep on praying!
