How do I get right with God?

Answer

In order to align with God, we must first comprehend what is incorrect. The answer is sin. “There is no one who does good, not even one” «They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: There is none that doeth good, no, not one. », (Psalm 14:3). We have defied God’s commands; we “like sheep, have gone astray” «All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. », (Isaiah 53:6).

The unfortunate news is that the consequence for sin is death. “The soul who sins is the one who will die” «Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. », (Ezekiel 18:4). The good news is that a compassionate God has pursued us to provide salvation. Jesus stated His purpose was “to seek and to save what was lost” «For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. », (Luke 19:10), and He declared His mission accomplished when He died on the cross with the words, “It is finished!” «When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. », (John 19:30).

Establishing a correct relationship with God begins with acknowledging yoYour sin. Next comes a humble confession of your sin to God «For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. », (Isaiah 57:15). “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved” «For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. », (Romans 10:10).

This repentance must be accompanied by faith – specifically, faith that Jesus’ sacrificial death and miraculous resurrection qualify Him to be your Savior. “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” «that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. », (Romans 10:9). Many other passages speak of the necessity of faith, such as John 20:27; Acts 16:31; Galatians 2:16; 3:11, 26; and Ephesians 2:8.

Being right with God is a matter of your response to what God has done on your behalf. He sent the Savior, He provided the sacrifice to take away your sin «The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. », (John 1:29), and He offers you the promise: “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” «And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. », <a href="ht

A beautiful illustration of repentance and forgiveness can be found in the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). The younger son squandered his father’s gift in shameful sin (verse 13). Upon recognizing his wrongdoing, he made the decision to return home (verse 18). He believed he would no longer be considered a son (verse 19), but he was mistaken. The father loved the returned rebel just as much as before (verse 20). All was forgiven, and a celebration followed (verse 24). God is faithful to His promises, including the promise of forgiveness. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” «The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. », (Psalm 34:18).

If you desire to reconcile with God, here is a sample prayer. Remember, reciting this prayer or any other prayer will not save you. It is only by trusting in Christ that you can be saved from sin. This prayer is merely a way to convey to God your faith in Him and express gratitude for His provision of your salvation. “God, I acknowledge that I have sinned against You and deserve punishment. However, Jesus Christ bore the punishment I deserve so that through faith in Him and His resurrection, I can receive forgiveness. I place my reliance on You for salvation. Thank You for Your amazing grace and forgiveness – the gift of eternal life! Amen!”
