Answer
Avoiding hell is simpler than you may think. Some individuals believe they need to follow the Ten Commandments throughout their lives to evade hell. Others think they must adhere to specific rites and rituals to escape hell. Some are uncertain whether they will end up in hell. None of these perspectives are accurate. The Bible clearly outlines how one can prevent going to hell after death.
The Bible portrays hell as a dreadful and dreadful place. Hell is depicted as “eternal fire” «Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: », (Matthew 25:41), “unquenchable fire” «whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. », (Matthew 3:12), “shame and everlasting contempt” «And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. », (Daniel 12:2), a place where “the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:44-49), and “everlasting destruction” «who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; », (2 ThesSalonians 1:9). Revelation 20:10 describes hell as a “lake of burning sulfur” where the wicked are “tormented day and night forever and ever.” Obviously, hell is a place we should avoid.
Why does hell even exist, and why does God send some people there? The Bible tells us that God “prepared” hell for the devil and the fallen angels after they rebelled against Him «Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: », (Matthew 25:41). Those who refuse God’s offer of forgiveness will suffer the same eternal destiny of the devil and the fallen angels. Why is hell necessary? All sin is ultimately against God «Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: That thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. », (Psalm 51:4), and since God is an infinite and eternal being, only an infinite and eternal penalty is sufficient. Hell is the place where God’s holy and righteous demands of justice are carried out. Hell is where God condemns sin and all those who reject Him. The Bible makes it clear that we have all sinned (Ecclesiastes 7:20;Romans 3:10-23), so, as a result, we all deserve to go to hell.
So, how can we avoid going to hell? Since only an infinite and eternal penalty is sufficient, an infinite and eternal price must be paid. God became a human being in the Person of Jesus Christ «In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. », (John 1:1,14) «And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father. », (John 1:14).
Full of grace and truth. (John 1:1,14). In Jesus Christ, God dwelt among us, taught us, and healed us, but those were not His ultimate purpose. God took on human form to die for us. Jesus, God incarnate, died on the cross. As God, His death was of infinite and eternal value, fully paying the price for sin «and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. », (1 John 2:2). God invites us to accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, acknowledging His death as the complete and rightful payment for our sins. God assures that whoever believes in Jesus «For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. », (John 3:16), trusting Him alone as the Savior «Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. », (John 14:6), will be saved, that is, will not go to hell.
God does not desire anyone to go to hell «The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. », (2 Peter 3:9). This is why God made the ultimate, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice on our behalf. If you wish to avoid hell, accept Jesus as your Savior. It is as simple as that. Confess to God that you acknowledge being a sinner and deserving of hell. Declare to God that you are relying on Jesus Christ as your Savior. Thank God for providing your salvation and rescue from hell.
Simple faith, trusting in Jesus Christ as the Savior, is the way to avoid going to hell!
