How can I know if I am in love?

Response

Love is an incredibly potent emotion that drives many aspects of our lives. Numerous significant decisions are influenced by this emotion, leading us to even tie the knot because we believe we are “in love.” Perhaps this is why approximately half of initial marriages culminate in divorce. The Bible imparts the wisdom that genuine love is not merely a fleeting emotion but a deliberate choice. We are called not only to love those who reciprocate our love but also to extend love to those who harbor animosity towards us, mirroring the way Christ loves the unlovable “But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.”, (Luke 6:35). “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).

It may be effortless to “fall in love” with someone, but there are crucial questions to ponder before determining if what we are experiencing is genuine love. Firstly, is this individual a Christian, meaning have they committed their life to Christ? Are they relying solely on Christ for salvation? Furthermore, if you are contemplating entrusting your heart and emotions to someone, you should reflect on whether you are prepared to prioritize that person above all others and place your relationship second only to God. The Bible teaches that when two individuals wed, they become one entity (Genesis 2:24;Matthew 19:5).

Another aspect to consider is whether your beloved is a go

Good candidate for being a mate. Has he/she already put God first and foremost in his/her life? Is he/she able to give his/her time and energy to building the relationship into a marriage that will last a lifetime? There is no measuring stick to determine when we are truly in love with someone, but it is important to discern whether we are following our emotions or following God’s will for our lives. True love is a decision, not just an emotion. True biblical love is loving someone all of the time, not just when you feel “in love.”
