A long time ago, in a distant kingdom, a monarch did not believe in the goodness of God. However, he had a servant who believed God was good. In every situation the servant used to say:
Oh my King, do not be discouraged, because everything God does is perfect. He never makes mistakes!
One day, the King and his servant went out to hunt. When they were walking through the jungle, a wild animal attacked the king. The servant killed the animal but he didn’t avoid that his Majesty, the king, lost the little finger on his right hand. The king, furious about what had happened, and without showing gratitude for the efforts of His servant to save his life, asked:
What can you say about this? Is God good? If God were good I would not have been attacked by a wild animal, and would not have lost my finger.
“Oh my king! Despite of all these things, I can only say ‘God is good’. Maybe losing your finger was the best for you whether you believe it or not. Everything God does is perfect. He never makes mistakes. Replied the servant.
The king, furious with his servant’s answer ordered his soldiers to put the servant into jail.
Some time after, the king went hunting again. This time he was kidnapped by a dangerous Indian tribe who lived in the jungle. Everybody was afraid of them because they used to sacrifice human beings to worship their gods.
After the tribe captured the king, they prepared the environment to start the sacrifice. When everything was ready, the Indian priest looked carefully to the king and shouting in anger exclaimed:
“This man cannot be sacrificed! He is not perfect. He lacks of one finger!
Because of this reason, the king was released. He was very happy and as soon as he got to the palace, he asked the soldiers to release the servant. When the servant stood before him, he hugged him tight and said:
Dear servant, God was really good to me! You must have heard I escaped from death because I didn’t have one of my fingers. But I have one question, If God is so good, why did he let you to go to prison? I mean, you, who always defended him in every situation.
The servant smiled and said:
If I had been next to you while hunting, I would have been sacrificed instead of you because all my body parts were complete! I want you to always remember: GOD NEVER MAKES MISTAKES.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28)
For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame” (Romans 10:11)
