God and the Farmer

An ancient story tells that God decided to come down to earth to closely feel the needs of men.

When he arrived, he wanted to have a conversation with the smartest and most hard-working man of the farmers. This interview would take place on the highest peak of a mountain and only one of them could attend on behalf of all the men in the community.

The wise men of the region appointed one to go to the great interview to present before God the situation that afflicted them.

An old farmer was chosen, who was considered the wisest in the community and who was entrusted with a series of questions to ask the Creator. That man full of courage climbed to the top of the mountain and approached the light where the Lord was.

With humbleness, respect and a nervous voice, he began to say to him:

«Lord, I know that you have created this world and everything that is inside and outside of it. I also believe that you have made everything perfect. But from my own experience I have learned more than You in things related to agriculture, so I am very happy that you have come down to earth, because you have many things to learn and rectify».

– «I will be happy to make myself available to you, I will listen patiently to everything you have to say and I will take your advice into account», God said.

«I believe – answered the old man – that there are many errors in the cycles of the moon, the sun and the stars; Regarding storms and earthquakes, but for not to overwhelm you, the wise men of my people suggest that you give us a year, in which we can do things our way.»

– «We will see what happens, but we are sure that by implementing our methods no one in the town will live in poverty.»

– «And what do you ask?», Answered the Lord.

– «We want you to send us the necessary rain in the next twelve months, neither more nor less, not too hot. In short, everything necessary for a good and abundant wheat harvest, for the vineyards and flowers to have great conditions.»

God agreed with the farmer’s request, and decided to do everything as agreed.

During this period of time, everything seemed to go very good, a warm sun, a sweet and calm rain, the fruit of the sowing had grown in an extraordinary way, even the wheat, the flowers and other vegetation had reached sizes never seen before.

Shortly after the agreed deadline expired, God decided to show up at the farmer’s fields. And the farmer full of pride told him:

– «Look, Lord, the sowing looks good! See and take advice on what a good harvest really is. This will be a magnificent year, the fruit of all the crops will be so good that we will eat well even if we do not work. You did well in listening to us.»

The time of harvest came, and the Lord was before them as He had promised. But the surprise of all the inhabitants of the region came when they saw that the wheat spikes did not have the grain, the grapes were tasteless and the flowers lacked aroma. “‘Sir!'” Asked one of the farmers. “Can you explain to us what could have happened?”

The Lord, with a calm voice and much love, explained to him: – «My presence is life and brings life, but since you did not allow me to be present, everything you did with your own strength was in vain, because it lacked life» .

This story can be applied in our lives. We are that land where the fruit is grown, but when we decide to distance ourselves from God there is nothing good we can offer. No matter how beautiful we look on the outside, we will find ourselves empty like the wheat spikes of the farmers. there will be no healthy fruit in our lives.

Only God can make a wonderful fruit germinate from us, He is the farmer, who cleans our land and prepares it to be cultivated so it can offer great fruit. Separated from God we can do nothing, no matter how hard we try, If God is not present in our lives, we will walk through life like flowers with no smell.
