Don’t give up like the shark!

A boy went with his father to the aquarium and as they walked they watched how a marine biologist placed a shark into a large holding tank and then released several small fish as bait into the tank.

They watched as the shark swam quickly around the tank and ate the fish, as expected.

Suddenly the father, without any answer to explain the situation to his son, decided to approach the biologist to find out exactly what his plan consisted of, as he was curious to know if it was about something more than feeding a shark; and it was.. it was an experiment.

The marine biologist then inserted a strong piece of clear fiberglass into the tank, creating two separate partitions. On one side was the shark and on the other side of the fiberglass, the biologist put the fish.

Again, the shark quickly attacked. This time, however, the shark slammed into the fiberglass divider and bounced off. Undeterred, the shark kept repeating this behavior every few minutes to no avail.

Meanwhile, the bait fish swam around unharmed in the second partition. Eventually, the shark gave up. The biologist repeated the experiment several dozen times over the next few weeks.

Each time, the shark got less aggressive and made fewer attempts to attack the bait fish, until eventually, the shark got tired of hitting the fiberglass divider and simply stopped attacking altogether. The marine biologist then removed the fiberglass divider, but the shark didn’t attack.

It was then that his father explained to his son, saying: this is the result that became a lesson for me, the shark was trained to believe that there was a barrier between him and the other fish, so now they swim where they want and are free from harm.

This story teaches a simple but strong lesson of not giving up when situations change. Sometimes we feel exhausted from trying and constantly failing. However, we have to remember that God is the one who gives us the strength to continue.

”For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1: 7

Let’s not allow discouragement to take control of our mind to the point of giving up. We all have goals that we want  to accomplish, at work, studies, even in the spiritual realm, so let us pray to God and turn to him so that through his strength as well as his grace we can obtain the best for our lives.

Let us be brave and courageous, putting aside the fear of failure, since sometimes these kinds of situations helps us to take into account that without God’s help we cannot do anything.

”It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.” Psalm 18:32
