The young people were able to collect more than $7,000 to help those affected by the explosion in Beirut.

Last Saturday, St. George’s Orthodox Church in Boston held a car wash day.

Timothy J. Ferguson, reverend and senior pastor of the church, noted that his congregation felt the need for a charitable act because many have personal ties to Lebanon.

“Our community, i.e. my parish, is composed of approximately 60% of immigrants from Lebanon,” he explained.

“So there were many people who were directly affected by the explosion that took place there.”

“So they wanted to come forward and respond. It was an initiative of the adolescents, the youth of the parish,” he revealed.

Although he was charging $10 per car, the pastor says that many people gave more than that.

Apparently, their donations exceeded $7,000. And it continues to grow thanks to the church’s website.

“They can’t physically get up and go there, so they know those funds are being used for what they would do if they were given the opportunity to go there,” Ferguson said.

These donations are for “rebuilding homes, food, clothing and care for the people who are affected.”

They are managed through local organizations focused on helping Beirut.
