Police have not confirmed the relationship between the seven people, only said that the 58-year-old man did not cooperate. «All scenarios are still open. Our investigation is in full swing and we cannot share more information at this time, ”police said.

The farm is located in Ruinerwold, a city in northern Holland that has about 4,000 inhabitants, on the outskirts of the town in an area known as Berghuizen, where less than 200 people lived, according to the Dutch newspaper Dagblad van het Noorden.

The farm is hidden behind the trees. The access road crosses a bridge over a canal. The farm is barely visible from the main road.

The discovery was made after the 25-year-old, who escaped from the farm in Ruinerwold, was sitting on the terrace of Kastelein Café in the same town.

The owner, Chris Westerbeek smelled problems and told the police. “This man looked disheveled, had long hair and said he needed help and had never been to school.”

The 25-year-old added that he escaped at night because “it was not possible during the day” and that he could not return to his place of origin, according to Westerbeek.

Stairs behind the closet

When police went to the farm, they discovered a staircase to the basement behind a closet in the living room of the house, RTV reported.

The father and the five children, all between the ages of 16 and 25, had no contact with the outside world, and lived completely self-sufficient, according to the television station.

The father seemed to have suffered a stroke several years ago and was in bed. According to reports, all the sons of man had no idea that there were other humans in the world.

It was not known where the mother of the children was, but the authorities told RTV that she may be “buried” on the farm.

The farm had a huge garden and many sheds, but it was described as quite messy, they lived from the garden and from a goat, according to the newspaper.

The children were not registered anywhere, had never been to school and, therefore, were not known to the state.

The neighbors did not know the family. According to a neighbor, a man lived alone there.

Police said on Tuesday afternoon on Twitter that a “great investigation team” remains at home and is “investigating the situation.”A neighbor told Dagblad van het Noorden that he only saw one man on the farm at all times and that he was “totally surprised” by the news of the discovery.

The police removed the family from their homes and placed them in a recreational park, while checking the safety of the home, among other things.

Police searched the site all night and access was closed. Police spokeswoman Ramona Venema confirms that the family was found on the farm. According to Venema, the police are still full of questions and continue investigating.
