In Nigeria, Borno state authorities recently said that at least 81 people were killed in an attack on a nomadic community by Islamic extremist militants.
The Borno government issued a statement last Wednesday explaining that militants in tanks and armored trucks attacked a community in Faduma Kolomdi.
Besides killing dozens at the scene, the terrorists are believed to have kidnapped about 7 people; including the village chief, as well as women and children.
A heartbreaking video shared on social media shows the corpses scattered across a dirt field.
Governor’s visit
According to The Christian Post, the incident lasted for hours; and Babagana Umara Zulum, governor of Borno, traveled to the scene of the attack as a result of it.
According to government statements, a witness told the governor that the armed men arrived at the village around 10 a.m. on Tuesday
“They gathered us and said they wanted to deliver religious sermon to us,” the unnamed resident was quoted as saying in the statement. “They asked us to submit whatever arm we had. Some villagers gave up their dane guns, bow and arrows.”
This survivor said that the militants began to shoot “at will”; even children and women “at a short distance”.
At least five people were rushed to a hospital for treatment, according to the state.
“We have buried 49 corpses here while another 32 corpses were taken away by families from the villages around us,” the resident said.
“The insurgents abducted seven persons including our village head. They went away with 400 cattle.”
The government has also claimed that another resident of a nearby town verified what the survivor told Zulum.

Criticism of the Nigerian government for its passivity
It should be noted that international activists criticize the Nigerian government for not thwarting attacks on states by these terrorist groups.
“In Nigeria, ISIS and Boko Haram continue to attack Muslims and Christians alike,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Wednesday. “ISIS beheaded 10 Christians in that country just this past December.”
