Surgeon general warns Americans not to take ‘any treatment’ without health provider supervision

The U.S. Surgeon General on Friday reminded Americans to always consult with a health care provider before “administering any treatment [or] medication to yourself or a loved one.”

“A reminder to all Americans- PLEASE always talk to your health provider first before administering any treatment/ medication to yourself or a loved one. Your safety is paramount, and doctors and nurses [have] years of training to recommend what’s safe and effective,” it said on Twitter.

It seems that people are using self medication not only with medicine but also with cleaning products in order to ”avoid” getting the covid-19 virus.

And taking into account misinformation about self medication or using any other kind of products agaist covid-19, Reckitt Benckiser Group, the makers of Lysol, warning against improper use of disinfectant produc.ts

“As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route),” the company said.

“As with all products, our disinfectant and hygiene products should only be used as intended and in line with usage guidelines. Please read the label and safety information.”

Experts on this matter said that ingesting disinfects such as Lysol or bleach is really  dangerous and can cause death.

The news comes after poison control centers across the U.S. have reported an increase by 20 percent in calls being made regarding exposure to cleaners and disinfectants amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Although a causal association cannot be demonstrated, the timing of these reported exposures correspond to increased media coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, reports of consumer shortages of cleaning and disinfectant products, and the beginning of some local and state stay-at-home orders.”
