Saneie Masilela is worldwide known as the youngest groom for having married a 62-year-old woman.
Helen Shabangu, his wife, has five children between the ages of 28 and 30. The boy in front of more than a hundred guests, dressed in a silver tuxedo, repeated his marriage vows, and many have called them “sick” because he got married, but Masilela didn’t care “because she really wanted to do it”.
This is part of a tradition in her country, South Africa, as this type of ritual that honours her dead ancestors. According to South African tradition, the boy was married to replace the spirit of the late man.
Helen’s first husband, Alfred Shabangu, didn’t seem to care either. “My children and I are happy because we don’t have a problem with her marrying the child, and I don’t care what other people say,” he said.
Although the boy has been “happy” to have married her, he has made it clear that when he grows up he wants to marry a woman his own age, “I’m happy that I married Helen, but I will go to school and study hard” “When I’m older, I will marry a lady my own age.’’” he said.
But after 4 years in marriage, the now 13 years old boy, has now impregnated the 66 year old widow.
The woman is allegedly five months pregnant and soon, the 13 year old Khabo will be a father.
