Quarantine ended in Wuhan, birthplace of Covid-19

China has not recorded any new local infections of Covid-19, according to the country’s health authorities. This is the first time this has happened since the outbreak was detected in December 2019. There are also no reported deaths.

After 11 weeks, this Wednesday, April 8th, the quarantine fence of Wuhan, imposed on January 23rd, will finally be lifted.

According to figures released on Tuesday by the National Health Commission, also for the first time the number of seriously ill people in Covid-19 has fallen below 200.

There have been no reported cases of community infection. The country has reported 3,331 deaths from the disease, although a US CIA report believes the actual figure is higher.

On Monday, a single death from the disease had already been recorded on Sunday. The announcement represents further confirmation that, little by little, China, the country where the new coronavirus originated, is managing to reach the light at the end of the tunnel.

Since the beginning of March, the country had already recorded a steady decline in the number of new infections. The lifting of the blockade of Wuhan will be a milestone in the fight against the disease, a symbol that things are returning to normal.

50 thousand people are expected to leave Wuhan

Starting this Wednesday, those who wish to leave Wuhan will be able to do so if they prove to be in good health, through a phone app. Since March 28, anyone can enter the city if they can prove that they are not carrying the virus.

50,000 travelers are expected to leave Wuhan this Wednesday. In recent days, the city has gradually returned to normal, citizens have been able to leave their homes for the first time after more than two months of confinement, public transport is being restored and social and economic life is beginning to strengthen with the opening of factories and businesses.

Throughout the day, the Wuhan authorities have intensified work to get everything ready for the big day: the city’s airport has been subjected to intense disinfection, and maintenance teams are cleaning the roadsides.

The toll booths have been blocked until now for any vehicle that wanted to leave, except for the trucks that have transported the supplies needed for the city and official cars.

These toll booths, which were turned into real checkpoints, have finally let people through again, provided they carry the necessary health code.
