According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), a cyber attack made by the Hamas terrorist group was thwarted. The idea of this type of attack was to seduce Israeli soldiers with photos of attractive women to hack their mobiles.
The attack apparently affected dozens of soldiers of different ranks and locations. Although, according to an army spokesman, it did not give Hamas relevant information. However, all compromised mobiles will be inspected as a precaution.
Through Twitter, the (IDF) published a woman’s “selfie” to announce the “digital trap.”
The hacking process began with the creation of profiles of young and attractive women. The Israeli army described this idea as highly complex and sophisticated. Then they contacted Israeli soldiers through Instagram, Whatsapp, Facebook, and Telegram.
Once the soldiers would establish communication with the “alleged women”, They (fake women) would ask soldiers to download a fake application via a link in order to exchange photos.
When downloading the application, an evil program would enter their mobile devices giving access to all their files, messages, contacts, location, camera control, and microphone.
The IDF said they know who they are and where they are responsible for these types of operations. Besides, they warned about the consequences.
This represents the third attack of this type of the Islamist movement in three and a half years and according to the army, it demonstrates a significant improvement in its cyber capabilities.
Hamas created fake social media profiles, using photos including this one, in an attempt to hack the phones of IDF soldiers.
What Hamas didn’t know was that Israeli intelligence caught onto their plot, tracked the malware & downed Hamas’ hacking system.#CatfishCaught
