Disturbing images show patients infected with Covid-19 lying on the floor, coughing and spitting inside Spanish hospital facilities.

Portal El Mundo reports that the impressive images were taken at the Hospital Infanta Leonor and the Hospital Severo Ochoa de Leganés in Madrid.

At the time the photos were released, Spain had 33,089 cases of people infected with the virus and approximately 2,182 deaths recorded.

On social networks, these videos and images have been widely shared. Many users urge others to isolate themselves in their homes and follow social distancing guidelines to avoid further contagion.

Faced with this situation, the country’s health system is struggling to cope with the constant increases in cases of Coronavirus that occur every day.

According to El Mundo, the hospital is not admitting new patients because they are at maximum capacity.

Javier Garcia of the General Workers’ Union said the hospital’s emergency room is “three times its capacity” and called the situation “dramatic”.

For Garcia, the situation is emotionally awful, adding that some patients go more than 30 hours without a bed.
