A Chinese father was caught trying to smuggle the body of his two-year-old son, carrying it in a travel bag on a bus.
Yang Cheng, 35, and his wife collected Li’s remains from the morgue at Hefei Hospital in Anhui Province before carefully putting him into a large travel bag. Then they went to the bus station where they tried to get into a vehicle traveling to their hometown of Quqiu.
The police were called and Mr. Yang was interrogated. He told them that he had resorted to that desperate measure after they realized that they were not able to pay for a hearse.
The man was released without charges and hired a private taxi to complete the two-hour journey home.
He said, “We are not rich and the funeral parlours wanted to charge us a fortune. A police spokesman said organ transport on public transport is prohibited.
