Giant Sandstorm Hits Africa And Paints The Sky Blood Red (Video)

People shared shocking images of this sandstorm through social media. The phenomenon impressed viewers due to huge size of the storm.

The people of Niger, the place of the events, went into their houses to protect themselves from the storm.

A sandstorm is a phenomenon classified as “normal” between the months of January and May in North Africa.

Strong winds and drought can be the main causes of these large accumulations of dust that have the capacity to travel thousands of kilometers.

Last Monday it was reported that the last of these storms occurred in the area at noon.

Citizens of Niamey, the capital of Niger, published on social networks videos of the event that show how a huge cloud covers much of the territory; alarming many people around the area.

Due to the giant and terrifying cloud of dust, many people said it was taken from a science fiction movie.

After a few minutes, the huge wave of land covered a great part of the urban area and turned the sky a strange red color.

This storm literally shocked the people from Niamey; who ran to their houses to protect themselves from the effects of it.

Other images released, also through social networks, show the difficulties in distinguishing people in a reddish environment due to the thickness of the cloud.

The phenomenon, believed to come from the Sahara desert, opened a way to significant torrential rains; and according to Yahoo News, those strong rains ended up flooding certain parts of the city.
