The first LGBTQ character will appear in an animated Disney-Pixar movie.
«Onward», will be premiere on March 6. It will introduce a lesbian heroine with a girlfriend, which makes the character be the first animated LGBTQ character in the Disney-Pixar universe. The voices of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt will sound, as elf brothers.
Besides that, the movie will have a character called Officer Specter, a Cyclops policeman, with the voice of Lena Waithe. She is an openly gay scriptwriter and actress.
So far, it is not confirmed whether the Official Specter will represent the lesbian or bisexual community; but what is clear that it will personify the LGBTQ community as a whole.
According to the description of the film, “two teenage elves brothers embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left” since the film is set in a magical universe with fantastic citizens, who have lost their connection to magic arts.
Dan Scanlon is the director of the film. He said that “It’s a modern fantasy world and we want to represent the modern world.”
This is Pixar’s first LGBT character, but it’s not the first time Disney has included the LGBTQ community on the screen.
The news of this LGBTQ character comes a month after Kevin Feige; the president of Marvel confirmed his company’s plans to add LGBTQ characters to the Marvel Universe.
“Yes, absolutely. Yes. Very soon. In a movie, we’re shooting right now,” Feige said, according to NBC News.
