Local media report that most of the infections occur in Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, where 37 and 23 cases are reported respectively.

One of the infected women, who was identified as Wang for Reuters news agency, said she presented fever and cough as the first symptoms, as well as a decrease in leukocytes and blood platelets in her body after medical tests.

She remained in the hospital for about a month due to her health condition and was discharged after being infected.

Sheng Jifang, a doctor at a local hospital in Zhejiang, said that person-to-person transmission of the virus through mucous membranes or blood should not be ruled out.

However, he said that so far, the main route of transmission of the SFTS virus is through tick bites.
