America’s largest group of atheists has requested that the FBI stop promoting faith within the unit.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), an atheist organization, said in a statement that an FBI official is concerned about the increase in “religious promotion,” according to Guide Me Gospel News.

“The FBI reportedly has a chaplain offer a Christian invocation at FBI graduation ceremonies and allows religious figures into the VIP section during FBI Academy events,” the atheist organization said in a statement.

They also said that such activity is promoted through emails since the deputy director of the FBI named Renae McDermott, has sent an email from the chaplain, which talks about faith and how it moves within the organization.

“That there is a divine power in charge of all things. You are all very much appreciated and I have been praying for you and your loved ones each week. . . .… I have restocked the chapel with Bibles, MP3 sticks and tracts for all,” the email read.

In the same way, the group that defends atheism criticizes that in each graduation ceremony of the academy or in special events where prayers were made.

“It is a fundamental constitutional principle that publicly funded institutions cannot support, promote or otherwise endorse religion or engage in religious exercises,” FFRF Staff Attorney Chris Line wrote in a letter sent to McDermott.

Within the FBI, 130 chaplains assist officials psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually; Within their website.

“They are accessible to anyone, regardless of faith,” says the site.

The atheist group denounced the team of chaplains, saying that “although they support any belief, they prefer Christianity.”

Many of the chaplains who are with the FBI do not receive any salary and are leaders of other organizations, however this system protects them, since they are aware that “they do not proselytize when they serve within the FBI.”

Their work within the FBI is to help employees with their problems or strong personal experiences, many of which lead to tragedies that have affected mental health, therefore, chaplains are the emotional and spiritual support of this service.
