Assemblies of God Christian Leader Elected as President of Malawi in Africa

In the recent presidential elections in Malawi, the president of the Assemblies of God in the country won.

Lazarus Chakwera, who is a theologian and also a politician, is taking over the presidency of Malawi, an occasion that is a milestone in the country for having a Christian leader in its history.

With the support of the UTM party in Malawi, he has just won the presidency after a difficult seven years in which he had to resign from the presidency of the Assemblies of God to devote himself to a political career that would bring change to his nation.

Graduating from the University of South Africa in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and then a Master of Theology degree, he received a doctorate in the USA to become a professor at the Pan African Theological Seminary for many years.

He also presided over the Assemblies of God School of Theology from 1996 to 2013, where he was also a professor, a remarkable job is that since 1989 he has been the director of Assemblies of God in Malawi.

Similarly, Chakwera worked with Billy Graham’s organization for many years. Today, his son, Franklin, has sent his heartfelt congratulations to the president for this achievement that will lead Malawi to redemption in Christ.

The recent elections gave him the victory with 59% of the votes in his favour.
